Description: Troy Wright from the Gold Coast, Australia. facebook.com/troywrightdrums instagram.com/troywrightdrums twitter.com/troywrightdrums Snapchat: troywright Drum Transcript: wrightdrums.com/alpha My Website: wrightdrums.com ______________________________________________ Filmed, recorded, mixed and edited by Troy Wright. Drum mix mastered by Simon Grove at Nerve Studios facebook.com/nervestudios Earlier in the year I transcribed a few of Periphery's songs from their latest releases 'Juggernaut: Alpha' and 'Juggernaut: Omega' and of those that I then played, Alpha was easily the most enjoyable on the set.. So after a few revisits to this song behind the drums I decided to learn the whole thing and do a cover. Periphery are one of those bands that just always seem to mix great groove with just the right amount of light and shade into all of their music and "Alpha" is a fine example. This song has to be one of the most fun tunes I've had the pleasure of doing a drum cover of. Like most of my covers I tried to keep my drumming as close to that of the original playing... And Matt Halpern certainly brings the flavour to the table you groovy, V neck, pocket infusing legend haha! After playing this song a few times I changed things up a little, such as riding the crash instead of playing open hats in the Chorus's, I played quarters on the stack over the groove in the second half of each verse (I felt this lifted this section nicely), I also opened up a little in the 7/4 section at 3:18 and took that opportunity to finish the section off with a solo (couldn't help meself!) This was a lot of fun, I will probably cover a couple more from the Juggernaut's so stay tuned. In the mean time go see Matt's latest play throughs if you haven't: youtube.com/HELLPERN *The extra moving shot was filmed by one of my drum students' father Atsuya Kotoda (facebook.com/AtsuyaKotodaPhotography) His son Joh also has a mad drum cover channel: youtube.com/JohTheDrummerFreak GEAR: I proudly endorse and exclusively use Pearl Drums, Sabian Cymbals, Remo Skins, Vic Firth Sticks, Shure Microphones and Hardcase Cases.
