On a US two prong outlet, connect the Neutral Wire (the white wire/the wire coming from the wide blade of the plug) to the N terminal. Connect the Load wire (also called hot wire/black wire/the wire coming from the thinner blade of the plug) to the L terminal. This wiring scheme will ensure that the load wire carrying the current is switched off. If you wire this the opposite way, everything will still function correctly, but the internal components of your circuit will remain energized. This can allow current to flow if you accidentally touch an exposed circuit component. To be safe, always unplug a device you are working on.
