After all, we're still people who have good and bad days – just like everyone else on the planet right? Sometimes we forget this – AND – so do our loved ones! There were many times where I'd have a horrible day at work, and it had nothing to do specifically with my Bipolar symptoms. I'd get home and I'd hear things like “Maybe you are just getting manic. Did you miss a dose of your medication? Should I make an appointment with your doctor?” Sometimes I'd want to just scream “Can't I just have a bad day every once in a while like everyone else!” There's a big impasse with loved ones here. Most of the time, our loved ones are rightfully afraid of having to be around the darker side of Bipolar Disorder. Of course they are going to worry if they see certain signs – especially if they suffer WITH us... If they've experienced abuse or trauma as a result of our Bipolar, their concerns are going to be even stronger. Communication is everything. If it's not the Bipolar Disorder causing a "bad day," we might feel like our feelings are being dismissed or just chalked up to the disorder when that might not be the case. This can innocently escalate things and leave everyone feeling confused. Both parties need to work on understanding each other better to bridge the gap of communication. In this video from Polar Warriors Bipolar Support, we're going to talk about some solutions for situations just like this. If you are in a relationship where Bipolar Disorder is part of the equation, I have many videos on this channel that can provide solution-based help. Maintaining a healthy relationship can be a challenge for many of us - AND our partners. I've mentioned many times how we can often be the hardest on our partners.
