Description: More on this sub here: rapidnadion.com/more-military-vessels.html (Description below) This is a 48" scratch-built R/C model of the USS Virginia, lead ship in the Navy's newest class of fast-attack submarine. She is shown on her shakedown cruise, testing systems and diving for the first time. The model is made from a PVC sewer pipe and custom-formed components. The stern cone, sonar dome, and sail are fashioned from walnut, mahogany, and basswood, respectively. She's driven by a 9.6v electric motor with belt drive, turning one ducted six-bladed propeller. This cruise took place in a body of salt water. We have experience operating R/C submarines in salt water, and the signal loss problems were not a surprise. This video was shot with a Casio Exilim FC-150, GoPro Hero HD, and Panasonic Lumix S85. Selected sound files are courtesy sounddogs.com and policeinterceptor.com Special thanks to Jim "Video One" B., for providing some beautiful footage, used throughout this video. We will have more videos featuring this submarine soon, as well as more detailed data and photographs on our website.
