The movement, if properly executed, tones the thighs, strengthens the back and sculpts the abs, which perform greater stabilization work when the leg is in the air. The Single Leg Bridge may be helpful in relieving lower back discomfort because if done consistently and correctly, it tends to strengthen lower back muscles as well as the buttocks.
