Description: I understand how some parents are feeling stress over "new math" because it's different than how we learned it. Please trust me when I say laying this ground work helps children understand math in a deeper way than our "plug and chug" method (as my beloved algebra teacher Mr. Smith used to call it). This video is for YOU parents and homework helpers. I will make more videos for the kids so they can practice too. Please note that these three strategies REALLY break it down. My students are already skipping parts of these steps and doing much of it in their head. The mental math in my classroom right now is the best I've seen because of these sorts of things (I've been doing this for twenty years so PLEASE trust me on this). Be kind- I did this quick because I have PD tomorrow so it's been a LONG day! Brain is about to explode which is probably how some of you feel trying to figure this stuff out.
