Description: Reacting CuSO4 (aq) with NaOH to produce Cu(OH)2 (s) and Na2SO4. The blue precipitate is Cu(OH)2 solid which falls to the bottom of the container. This reaction is an example of a double displacement reaction. If there is excess NaOH in the solution the blue precipitate, the Cu(OH)2, will change to CuO (a black solid).
