But really, why don't many computer science students know how to code? There are plenty of required programming classes throughout your computer science degree, with many more elective programming classes that you can take. If you want to be a software engineer - meaning you explicitly choose programming classes as your electives - there's no reason you shouldn't have a solid grasp of how to code upon graduation. Even if you only take the required programming classes, you should still have a decent understanding of programming concepts.
