Description: You may have seen this flying mask experiment floating around the internet. But, can a candle make a mask fly? In this video, we are testing this out by recreating the experiment. We all know how hot air balloons work. This experiment is a similar concept but on a smaller scale. A flame will heat the air molecules around it. Science tells us that hot air rises because it becomes less dense. The mask acts as the hot air balloon, trapping the hot air inside and lifting the mask. Even if a small candle like this could generate enough heat to lift the weight of this surgical mask and candle itself, the mask isn’t enclosed enough, and the material allows air to pass through it.
