The PPV featured the semi-finals and finals of the annual King of the Ring tournament (this year featuring Ahmed Johnson, Mankind, Jerry Lawler and Triple H) along with a WWF Championship match featuing Faarooq vs The Undertaker. A special grudge match also took place when WWF Tag Team Champions Shawn Michaels and Steve Austin decided to face eachother in a singles bout, a bout that only happened because the initial Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels match was cancelled.
