Description: Tom Middleton brings the Alpine Fighter Collection's Yak-3 alongside a camera ship during the Warbirds Over Wanaka 1998 (New Zealand). This clip highlights the difficulty in filming high performance aircraft air-to-air without a helicopter and a gimbal mounted camera -- the original cameraman probably had little experience in filming from an aircraft, and the weather could have been slightly turbulent, leading to a less than perfect shoot, but one that is never-the-less interesting to watch. This short video clip is from a recently discovered archive of footage from a number of early Warbirds Over Wanaka airshows that the Historical Aviation Film Unit has recovered and is remastering and re-releasing. Much of this original raw camera footage has never been seen before.
