Chord progressions are not copyrightable. Lyrics and melodies however are! That said, even though there are thousands of chord possibilities, more often than not the same chord progressions are used over and over again. Often times musicians will use what is called the “number system” to notate chords according to their rank. That is, according to their role that they play within a song. A “C major” chord has three different functions or ranks in the three different keys of F, G and C. Because of that, the numbering system gives us more detail about the function of each chord. It’s also very convenient for using the attached number system chart that I have created for you. Once you get the knack of it, it’s very easy to decipher. I will walk you through all of this in the live broadcast.
