Well, a Mii Fighter costume that looks like Shantae is in Super Smash Bros Ultimate. We know that this distinction is important to many of you, and if you were hoping for Shantae to be the final slot in the Fighters Pass Vol 2 DLC roster, we feel your pain.That said, Masahiro Sakurai's announcement that Shantae's adorable Mii costume would be appearing in Smash, was still our personal highlight of the Sakurai Presents Kazuya Mishima video that premiered today. Those of you who know us are well aware of our love of cute cartoon female protagonists in games, even if the Shantae games can get a little... male gaze-y... at times. We'll take what we can get. She's still a cool character, and it's great to see her in a more substantial role in Smash. Plus, now we can dress Cuphead in her outfit. What's not to love? According to Shantae co-creator Matt Bozon, the team at WayForward are more than happy to work with Nintendo on making crossovers like this happen. The two companies have a strong working relationship going back decades, and WayForward trusts Nintendo to the point that they don't always need to be told in advance what Nintendo plans to do with their characters or art assets. As for who's responsible for Shantae making it into Smash, Bozon gives all of the credit to the fans. Shantae is one of the most oft-requested characters for Smash, so it's good to see Masahiro Sakurai's team giving this to us, in some small form, even if Shantae isn't a fully-fledged Smash fighter. Now, all that's left is to speculate about who'll be the FINAL character to be added to Super Smash Bros Ultimate...
