Toby Fox's popular DELTARUNE Chapter 2 has a hidden dark side. Much like UNDERTALE before it, this game will let you do some truly cruel and somewhat depressing things to everyone around you - and, as with UNDERTALE, tracking down the Snowgrave or Weird Route and fighting Spamton NEO has become a major point of interest for the community as a whole. The inclusion of the Snowgrave Route (also called the Pipis Route) has come as a surprise to come fans, after Toby Fox had previously stated that there was only one ending to the game. While he may have been talking specifically about DELTARUNE Chapter 1 at this point, Toby has made it very clear that everything he is creating with DELTARUNE is building to a singular end point, which came to him in a fever dream when he was sick in 2012. So why does the Snowgrave Route exist, if there's only one ending for DELTARUNE? Well, there are a few possibilities. It might be that Snowgrave somehow informs the final ending of the game, leading to the same finale but through a different path. It could be that plans for Snowgrave only occured to Toby while he was working on the game. It could also be that Toby has not been entirely honest about the ending to DELTARUNE. He does famously dislike giving away too much about the secrets hidden within his games. Then, there's the big question: why even make a secret route where you can be horrible to everyone? What is Toby trying to accomplish by giving players this option? The story of DELTARUNE is one of friendship and compassion. More so than UNDERTALE, the pacifist or good path is laid out explicitly for the player to try for themselves. Giving players the opportunity to ignore the game's central premise and do terrible things anyway? That ultimately says more about the player than it says about the game.
