Pipkin rabbit used to love making rabbit coming when called videos, and it seems like this tiny pet bunny rabbit does, too, as the rabbit responds to his name! What does Pigpoke mean? We shortened it from the saying “pig in a poke”. What does pig in a poke mean? What is a pig in a poke? A pig in a poke is something you buy sight unseen, without checking it over or inspecting it first. Wikipedia says, regarding the origin story of "pig in a poke", starting in the 19th century, the idiom was explained as a confidence trick where a farmer, when selling goods at a market, would substitute a cat for a pig. (Back then, a bag was called a "poke", so you'd think you were buying a pig in a bag, but when you got home you realized what you really bought was a cat, or a raccoon, or a skunk!) When the buyer discovered the trick, he was said to "let the cat out of the bag", that is, to learn of something unfortunate prematurely. :) Why name the tiny pet bunny rabbit Pigpoke? We had only read about this sweet wee bun and his difficult life on the internet when we decided to take the plunge and go and adopt him. So, in that sense, he was a "pig in a poke" – we had no idea what we were getting ourselves into! Once we got him home, we kept shortening the phrase, and the nickname stuck. Most importantly, he loves the name, and responds to it with enthusiasm! Also, he eats like a pig. AND grunts like a pig. Pigpoke! We tried calling him hundreds of names over the last few weeks and we thank you for your thoughtful name suggestions! He definitely liked some more than others. Haha! :) We think Pigpoke is the perfect name for the sweet wee bun because: 1) He loves the sound of it! And he gets super excited when he hears it! Hooray! 2) He’s a little trickster and enjoys pranks, like the origin of the saying 3) He likes to hide! Like a pig, in a poke! 4) Once we heard his story, we travelled a long way to go and adopt him without meeting him first, so from the beginning he was a “pig in a poke” 5) He eats like a pig! 6) He grunts like a pig! 7) Pigpoke! We think he will be making rabbit eating videos / rabbit ASMR videos and rabbit playing videos for you in no time!
