I love just jamming on the kit, but the thought of playing a solo for the purpose of "impressing" people terrifies me, because I'd much rather play along to music and riff off that. I'm really self-critical, so the thought of having to play a "flawless solo" with zero mistakes is kind of paralysing, it's difficult for me just to have fun when I'm more focused on not making mistakes. That's the primary reason why I ABSOLUTELY LOVE that I mess up in this video. And right at the end too, haha! It keeps my ego in check. I find that I only stress about not making mistakes when my goal is to impress people, when my goal is to use drumming to prop up my ego. But when I'm free from that pressure, when I give myself the freedom to make mistakes, when I accept that mistakes have absolutely zero meaningful impact on my life, then it actually makes everything SO MUCH MORE FUN. Weirdly enough, the vulnerability to be ok with mistakes actually makes it MORE powerful and enjoyable, not less. What a weird paradox. So that's my intention here, and I love that this isn't perfect. It also just so happens to be filmed in Virtual Reality 😎 Enjoy!
