Description: Train horns! is a video series that listens to different types of air horns used on North American locomotives at railroad crossings. Part 4 features the Nathan Airchime K5HL, which is the horn of choice on General Electric's "Evolution Series" locomotives (ES44AC, ES44DC, ES44C4, ET44AC, etc.), becoming one of the most common train horns in the country. Several K5HLB's exist on BNSF and KCS, though not seen in this video. NS has a few K5HLA's on their Heritage units, two of which appear in this video! The K5HL, along with the K5LLA, use a 1L bell that came onto the market in 2004 as a response to a federal mandate that established a minimum and maximum decibel rating, which ultimately led railroads, most notably CSX, to rid older horns off of their locomotives, partciularly Leslie 3 and 5 chime horns. In reality, the K5HL and K5LLA are often much louder than the Leslie horns. Sound-dampening techniques include turning several bells or the entire horn backwards. Since 2004, like any other horn, some have appeared on other locomotives models; we'll see that with NS SD60M 6803 and CSX AC4400CW 207. Central Penn Rail Productions 2019 Thanks for watching!
