Edited on an apple iMac Developed as a next generation intermediate assault rifle to replace the Type 64, the Type 89 is the current day issued infantry weapon for the Japan Self-Defense Force. Chambered in the 5.56x45mm NATO cartridge, the Type 89 offered many immediate advantages such as easing the load on each individual soldier as well as allow a greater amount of ammunition to be carried. The simplified manufacturing and mechanics of the rifle not only decreased acquisition costs, but in turn also made the rifle easier to use and maintain thanks to its minimal number of components.
