Description: Tkvarcheli (Tkuarchal) is a town in the eastern part of Abkhazia. Before the collapse of the Soviet Union, Tkvarcheli was a large industrial center. The basis of the industry was coal mining and enrichment. During the War in Abkhazia (1992-1993), Tkvarcheli withstood an uneasy siege by the Georgian forces. The town's power plant was bombed in the first days of the siege and then shut down. In the postwar years, as a result of economic sanctions imposed on Abkhazia by the CIS, the industrial potential of Tkvarcheli was almost destroyed. Ткварчели (Ткуарчал) - город в восточной части Абхазии. До распада Советского Союза Ткварчели был крупным промышленным центром. Основной отраслью была добыча и обогащение угля. Во время Грузино - Абхазской войны (1992-1993 гг.) город пережил тяжелейшую блокаду, продолжавшуюся 413 дней. ГРЭС была повреждена в первые дни осады, а затем остановлена.
