The last I looked, my most viewed video had 10,000,000 views. Turns out, I have a total 22 videos that have hit over 1,000,000 views. Which sounds like a lot, but I know not all views are created equal. We’re going to be doing some digging in today’s video to find out how much you can expect to make from your top viewed videos. First, it's important to know how monetization on Youtube works. Youtube pays a creator, through Google Adsense, for the ads run on every single video. Advertisers pay a CPM (or cost per mille) per every one thousand viewers. Youtube actually shows it as both CPM, and RPM (revenue per mille). The CPM is what the advertisers are paying, and the RPM is actually what you’re making after Youtube takes their 45%. Content Creators in certain categories have a more competitive ad space for advertisers, making the CPM rise. This not only varies based upon what type of content you’re making but also the time of year. With the holiday season typically being the highest paying months as advertisers are paying a premium to get in front of the eyes of holiday shoppers and the beginning of the year is typically the lowest. So, what about my channel? My number one viewed video is a How To Make Slime tutorial which I created back in April of 2017. This video has made $29,743.47 in three years, with a whopping CPM of $2.47 which is honestly pretty low. This is probably because a lot of younger viewers would tend to watch this video and advertisers aren’t willing to spend as much on ads as opposed to older audiences who would probably spend more on their products. Luckily, I have 21 more videos that have over 1 million views to look into the stats of to see if this is just a normal amount on my channel. I broke it down and I have 15 other slime videos with over one million views, but the average CPM for all 15 was only $2.89. I did find a very interesting trend.I found that any tutorial type of video I did had a significantly lower CPM. However, I also have a lot of Etsy slime reviews and Amazon slime reviews, and these did significantly better. This is why you see a lot of creators doing Amazon Favorites and similar videos. Amazon or their competitors are more likely to pay a premium for ad space on these types of videos. You can’t guarantee how much money any one video is going to make, regardless of how many views it gets. Even things like the Coronavirus has an influence on this. My CPM average for this year is $3.75, whereas last year in 2019 was $4.14. That doesn’t sound like a huge difference, but it's like getting a $6,000 pay cut. So there you go, Youtube is full of uncertainty but in a time like this, I’m still fortunate to have a job. You just have to save and prepare a little more than if you had a set income every month. ------------------------------ BUSINESS INQUIRIES: ------------------------------ courtney_youtube@ymail.com Disclaimer: All thoughts, opinions and actions are my own and do not guarantee any specific outcome when replicated.
