We’ll start off by getting the most important caveat out of the way – working with just two strings! Most guitar students start learning scales in large vertical full 6-string layouts. These layouts are too big for making any melody happen fast. All this can be fixed by learning along the neck 2-string scales that connect laterally by way of slides. If you don’t have your lateral 2-string scales together, (and in check for major and minor), then the rest of what I am going to show you isn’t going to matter. So, learn these major & minor shapes first. The fact of the matter is that we want melody to show, and show quickly. This will come through experimenting with slide moves and connections as you practice with these shapes. Realistically, once the shapes are memorized, find time to be consistent and keep experimenting with different slide moves.
