Description: There are hundreds of chords and thousands of ways of playing them on the piano or a keyboard — so how do you learn them all? In this tutorial I’m going to take you through a step-by-step method of learning all the chords you need to know. You don’t need a ton of stuff, and it doesn’t involve any boring drills. This is all about learning your chords by making music. In the tutorial I also touch on the importance of good chord voicing, which, if you’re playing piano or keyboard (or producing music direct into a DAW) is JUST as important as knowing the chords themselves. Chords never exist in isolation, but always as part of a wider musical structure, and its really critical to get a good, instinctive understanding of how one chord relates to another. In particular, it’s important to avoid successive “jumps” between chords: whenever you improvise or compose at the piano, your music will sound much better if you pick chord shapes and voicings that fit naturally together.
