Description: 'Harsukh ' means peace of Har. Har meaning All or the Divine. Harsukh is a school that bases itself around the arts, they incorporate a blend of ancient and yet very contemporary teachings to provide the children with a caring conducive environment to be able to learn through creative means, while completing the normal curriculum that is expected of the going school age. Harsukh is a place that ignites creativity with there endless activities that are not usually found in Pakistani school, these include: traditional singing and dancing called kathak, various arts and crafts, clay modelling, drawing, painting, tie and dye, jewellery making, avionics, even meditation and sound healing. They grow their own fresh produce, all grown organically and they make their own sugar from raw sugar cane! I got to meet the founders and their children, the principle and the teachers, and of course the children themselves. I spent the day there learning what they do and absorbing myself in their beautiful community that they have created. I was so happy to discover such a wonderful innovative place in Pakistan. The school is located just outside of Lahore, surrounded by nature. The building has been designed by Kamil Khan Mumtaz in the old traditional style of Architecture using almost the same material as was used then, no cement or steel has been used. The insulation is far better than modern materials. All tiles used are hand made in Nasrpur Sindh by local traditional folk artists who have been doing this for centuries. I felt a strong presence of community and camaraderie amongst pupils, teachers and volunteers. It was a very enlightening experience which I am grateful to have encountered .
