Description: Katherine Isbister University of California, Santa Cruz April 8, 2022 Scholars like Sherry Turkle and industry advocates like Tristan Harris have been sounding alarms about the degradation of social connection and community that can result from technologies increasingly interwoven into our daily interactions. In this talk, Isbister will share a vision of building 'Suprahuman' technology that enhances the quality of connection between people, taking inspiration from the design of play and playful experiences. Using prototyped examples from her team's research, ranging from VR to wearables to streaming biosignals, she will sketch out alternate possibility spaces for where we might put our efforts as technologists intent on supporting and even enhancing human social experience.
