Description: Fleece is a soft, warm fabric that can be cut without fraying, making it the perfect material for creative, cold weather projects! Whether you are sewing fleece clothing, accessories or blankets, there are several strategies to keep in mind when working with fleece fabric. This video from JOANN will guide you through the whole process of sewing a fleece blanket with useful tips and tricks along the way to make your sewing project easy and straightforward. Follow along and learn how to determine the right and wrong side of fleece, how to cut fleece fabric, and what sewing machine settings/stitching techniques will set you up for success when working with fleece. It may be tricky to tell at first glance, but there is a right side and a wrong side of fleece. In this video, you will see that on printed fleece the right side is the one with the more vibrant and crisp pattern. For solid colored fleece, the side with the higher loft in fibers is considered the right side. Still having trouble figuring out which side is the right side? Don't worry, you can do it! We have a fun trick for this that you will see in the video! At JOANN, we recommend using a temporary marking method, like a disappearing ink pen, to mark the wrong side of each piece of fleece and avoid any confusion while sewing—so make sure you have this handy! Since fleece is a thicker fabric, it's important to remember a few key tips: cut one layer at a time, use sharp fabric scissors or a rotary cutter with a fresh blade, and take the nap of the fabric into consideration when choosing what to direction to cut. Once you're at this point, all the preparation is complete and you will be ready to stitch fleece using a sewing machine! This video will walk you through various sewing machine setting adjustments you can make to avoid stretching the fleece while you sew. It's recommended to use a polyester thread and a longer stitch length, but there are multiple stitch techniques that can be used to sew fleece and that depends on your personal preference. Whichever stitching technique and aesthetic style you opt for with your fleece project, you can't go wrong and are sure to have a comfortable, cozy creation when you've finished!
