Description: Yesterday, a couple of work barges broke loose of their moorings and got swept downriver in a very flooded Potomac river in Maryland. Both barges were loaded with equipment including excavators. This barge got caught in the hydraulic formed by Dam Number Four and seemed to attack the stone dam over and over. The crashing of the barge against the 160+-year-old dam (originally built to water the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal) and most certainly caused some damage that only low water will reveal. The day after this video was shot, this barge remains stuck in the hydraulic at this dam but the deck is swept clean of all equipment. The excavator sleeps with the fishes as does all of its fuel, fluids, and whatever is in the giant tote. The other barged traveled 20 more miles downriver and got swept behind the remains of Dam Number Three and is stuck there for good. Its excavator is still on-board. I kept thinking if only we had a Ukrainian farmer around he would have pulled it ashore and put it to use. Slava Ukraini!
