For instance, to make faster progress you need to practice challenging parts of a song slowly. Play slower = faster progress. See the irony? Now while you’ll often hear me talk about using the magnifying glass to zoom in on trouble sections that’s only going to help you so far… zooming in needs to be paired with slowing down. I can tell you now from all my years of teaching, most people don’t slow down anywhere near enough. In simple if you keep making the same stuff up, you’re playing it to fast. A default I like to use is… however fast you think you should be practicing that tricky bit, minus your speed by 20%. So how do we get ourselves to ACTUALLY slow down? That’s the topic of today’s lesson :) P.S. This one’s a doozy and can really sky rocket your progress if you do it right. Just be sure to take note of what I say at 2.40. The Restart Rule is a guitar practice strategy that hinges on two vital foundations: honesty and discipline. The Restart Rule is NOT for the feint of heart. The Restart Rule is unforgiving. The Restart Rule forces you to slow down. The Restart Rule if adhered to, will give you better results sooner.
