Description: Hi, and thanks for tuning in! In this video, I address some of the comments that have been popping up under my paintings and drawings, telling me that my art is "not real art," and instead, calling it "decorative and ornamental." While it's obviously not meant to be decorative, (designed for use on greeting cards or wrapping paper,) and it's not ornamental, (made to use as crown moulding or a carpet,) I can only take that feedback as a complisult, or low-key art burn. Having only recently joined the club of YouTube artists, I see that many who came before me have made similar videos, sharing stories of times when people told them their art is not real art, (especially the anime / manga artists out there... what a persecuted bunch they are in the art world,) and that they should change their style in order to be legit. I may lose some subs on this one, but... please don't watch my videos if you want to poop on my art and expect me to thank you for it. While nobody should have to defend their work, (outside of maybe an art school critique,) here I am, a full grown adult, reliving my experiences of art classes gone by, sharing about the artists who inspired me, and the mission statement behind my work. My work might look decorative and ornamental, but it's an attempt to communicate something beyond what's already known, as a journey of consciousness into the realm of pure creative expression. You might be wondering how I would classify it... and here goes... non-representational abstract art. Is that alright? Do you mind calling it that? The thumbnail for this is one of my all time favourite paintings, Composition VII by Vassily Kandinsky. (Sorry to irreverently put my cringy face and video caption over it.) If you're interested in art and spirituality, I highly recommend looking up Kandinsky, Mark Rothko, and Alex Grey. It's soon to be added in my Etsy shop; message me in Etsy if you'd like to buy it before the listing goes live: etsy.com/shop/TheArtOfGems The earrings I'm wearing were a gift from my friend Cami, who has an Etsy shop called Xumila.
