Flash drives that come in this type of package are made out of "scrap" materials of NAND flash memory devices. Often when monolithic SD cards, microSD cards, monolithic flash drives, and Sony Duo Pro cards have internal issues with a controller but the NAND is still ok, they would get a second life. With their native controller physically disabled, they find their way onto no-name flash drives and full-size SD cards and used as NAND storage. Today's USB stick came with a little "twist" no pun intended.
