Description: I've been a Prince fan since 1983 (when cable tv came to my little hometown), and when I was a young girl just starting to learn how to use watercolor, he was one of the first people I painted. He was also a true hero of mine and an inspiration to me throughout my life, especially creatively. When I'm working my hardest and good things are happening, I *feel* like I'm Prince. :) Prince made high school bearable, and he has been a musical touchstone for my entire teenage and adult life. While I haven't always agreed with some of his opinions, I never stopped thinking he was a genius and a true role model for anyone who's a little bit different. His death in April hit me very hard, and I don't think I'll ever get over it. Someone on Tumblr started to refer to him as her "fairy god boyfriend," and that's what he is to me now, too. Earlier this year, I painted a similar portrait of David Bowie, and viewers seemed to enjoy that a lot. I did get one person who thought my video tribute was in poor taste and asked me if I was "raised by wolves" (which is a good U2 song, btw). I don't paint heroes of mine to capitalize on their deaths. Painting is a cathartic way for me to deal with loss, and if you've never tried it, you should. Anyway, if that same viewer finds this painting to be in poor taste as well, I'm sorry you feel that way. I paint because I love. The painting took around three hours to create, so to edit it down to a manageable length, I had to speed it up quite a bit (20x!). I hope this might give you a glimpse into my painting process. I'm using just a few colors here, see below. New videos will arrive soon, including more information on my big project that I can finally start to tell you about! Thanks again so much for watching my videos and being so patient with me! You may have noticed that I've changed the name of my channel! It's now Kelly Eddington Watercolors and is a little less confusing.
