Description: WBC Heavyweight champion coming off his crushing ko defense against former WBA champion Mike Weaver was about to defend his title for the second time against former title challenger Trevor Berbick on the comeback trail. Berbick stepped into the ring alongside legendary trainer Eddie Futch while the champion opted to come in without his trainer Angelo Dundee. Berbick a 6 1/2 to 1 underdog took the fight to Thomas who chose to fight the challenger's fight which is inside. Despite a dominating show from long-distance fighting with his left jab, Thomas was quickly worn down towards the middle rounds. Berbick, at 31 years old, emerged victorious with a unanimous decision, winning his first world title on his second attempt! He would late defend his title that same year against number one contender Mike Tyson!
