Description: This was an instructional film produced to teach men (apparently not women at that time) how to become high school audio visual supervisors. I post it now because of the way the narrator speaks about communications and 16mm film in this old movie. It was made during the late 1950s. In my high school on Long Island, the audiovisual man would roll in the projector at least once a week and we would see a 16mm movie. I have collected hundreds of these movies as I feel that they reveal what the powers that be wanted to teach students during that time. There were films that we students enjoyed and other ones that we laughed at, even though their intention was not to be funny. I apologize for the supered title MacDonald. He collected thousands of these films and would share the best of them with me, always putting his watermark on them. When I started my career as a documentary filmmaker in 1963, one of the ways you could make a living was to produce one of these films backed by companies such as Encyclopedia Britannica or by the government who paid filmmakers like me good money to make educational films. schools across America had to buy these films at a cost of, surprisingly often, $1000 or more per print. Schools had large budgets for audio video materials back then. I loved 16mm film, the look of it on the screen, the way you had to load it into the camera or the projector, even the noise the projector made as the hook pulled the film down at 24 frames per second.
