Description: #homelessness #echopark #Losangeleshomeless If you have a specific question for me I'm using this service now to answer requests: heyhero.com/influencer/specialhead You can get involved by volunteering or donating cash to help with the homeless epidemic in America: chp-sf.org shelterboxusa.org losangeleshouseofruth.com losangeleshouseofruth.com/ways-to-help/give-items I shot most of this in February 2021 in Los Angeles. The interviews are from 2015. Recently LA evicted a large encampment in Echo park. Los Angeles has a problem with homelessness more than any other city I've seen. The more Conservative San Diego while smaller also has many homeless people. Some people will be commenting trying to make homelessness a political issue because cities are usually run by democrats and small towns usually don't have much of a homeless problem. People will try to say liberal California is to blame however the biggest factor I've noticed is weather. Southern California has very dry temperate weather. It never freezes, and even though San Diego has a conservative city counsel, it has just as bad of a problem as the weather is quite nice there. What it comes down to is nice weather allows for this lifestyle. A liberal cold city such as Minneapolis doesn't have nearly the homeless problem as conservative Miami Florida. There's many factors going on there. 1. the warmer cities attract people choosing to live a homeless lifestyle; the van life RV people, the crusty Punks who travel by rail & hitch hiking. If they are able to they will head south for the winter and be more likely to stay. Also because homeless will freeze to death in New York City and not LA. The NYC gov feels more an obligation to provide more shelters so these people don't die. That's why you don't see these permanent tent cities in New York. What you have there is people retreating underground to abandoned subway tunnels where it's warmer. And that keeps them more out of sight. 2nd large cities attract people, some of whom may have big dreams beyond their means or some maybe just feel lost in life, rejected by the communities in their smaller towns. People on the fringes of poverty who chose to stay in their small towns will still have more of a safety net staying close to where they grow up to catch them when they fall to give them places to crash while they pick themselves up. When you don't have an address how do you fill out a job application. Once you get to that point you need a social worker to help you find programs that can help you find work without an address. 3rd because so many people are coming to a city like LA or New York with little capitol, chasing a dream of success, the rents in these cities become less affordable adding to the problem. You don't have people flocking to nowhere Kentucky to enjoy the corn fields maybe a few. But the influx of people into these big cities coupled with the nice weather is why the problem seems so bad here. Not the politics. If anything liberal cities provide much more resources to help these people get back on their feet. It's conservatives who are always cutting funding to such programs. So it's another attempt by Republicans to propagandize a problem in a generalized way of saying: No homeless in rural conservative areas. Homeless in Cities. Cities run by Democrats. Its the Democrats Fault. It's the same way they showed you a map of all the red counties that are sparsely populated compared to all the blue in the densely populated areas, while they tell you that they are the majority because look at how much red their is. They actually think you're dumb enough to not take into account population density. For some it's the pride that they're right that causes them to self inflict this ignorance.
