Description: Israel has tested its new defense system called Iron beam. Iron beam defense system is the world's first direct energy weapon, uses laser beam to shoot down the airborne targets. In this video it is explained that what is iron beam system, how iron beam works and comparison between iron dome and iron beam defense systems. The energy-based defense systems have many benefits over conventional defense systems that use missile interceptors to engage targets. The Iron beam system is a laser gun that produces a highly energetic beam of hundreds of kilowatts and can shoot down the target within four to five seconds. An iron beam battery is composed of two laser guns, a surveillance system, and a command unit. The incoming threat is tracked by a surveillance system. When a threat is detected, the twin laser-gun fires a highly energetic beam of 100-kilowatt power that destroys the target within 4 to 5 seconds. In a test, the Iron beam system has successfully shot down UAVs, rockets, and mortars shells. Israel claims that the iron beam system has a lower operational cost. It can shoot down the incoming threats at only $3.5 per shot.
