Description: Good telescope that I've used to learn the basics: amzn.to/35r1jAk Get a Wonderful Person shirt: teespring.com/stores/whatdamath Alternatively, PayPal donations can be sent here: paypal.me/whatdamath Hello and welcome! My name is Anton and in this video, we will talk about the huge infrared telescope that preceded James Webb by a decade and the telescope that was responsible for a lot of incredible discoveries. The telescope with a 3.5 meter mirror known as The Herschel Observatory. Also I made an oopsie again that I forgot to correct in the video: The three images shown in the beginning (WISE/Spitzer/JWST) were created using relatively similar wavelength of around 4-8 micrometers, representing the mid-infrared frequencies Herschel telescope was not designed to observe these with the operational wavelength being between 55-651 micrometers. So I shouldn't have used that particular image as the telescope would not be able to create something similar and was only good at looking at longer IR light It still doesn't change the fact that it was a powerful IR telescope with the biggest mirror size prior to 2021 and still the biggest single piece mirror ever launched.
