Description: Wow. First this was going to be a 10K Subscriber thank you, then a 20k, now it stands as a 25k Subscriber thank you. It's extremely humbling to have every single one of you who've tuned in and subscribed. Sincerely, THANK YOU!!! STATE OF THE CHANNEL: I know my projects cover a pretty wide variety of things so not every video will scratch your specific itch. I also know that I don't post as regularly as I could/should. I promise that I have not run out of ideas (not even close). Truthfully, I've been spreading out the videos somewhat artificially, I knew that there would be a span of a couple months where I wouldn't be able to make much. There are a lot of life changes happening (for the better!) and I needed my focus elsewhere. So there may be a bit of a dry spell, but don't worry, there are A LOT of great projects coming up. As for this project, this is something that I made a while ago. I posted it to Reddit a few years back, but that was before I got into filming the process, so it's a good chance to revisit. The idea was to look at the iconic "sombrero graph" in slices. I've got very meager tools to work with, so this is also an excellent opportunity to show something you can make using just a few things (Excel, a printer, a stack of index cards, a scissors). Excel is definitely not the optimal software to perform this task, but it's something most people have access to, so it's a good constraint (I'm not sure making this in Matlab, for example, would be as approachable to most people). If you want to mess around with the spreadsheet, or just print it out for yourself, here are all the files you'll need: Sombrero Excel Spreadsheet: measuredworkshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Sombrero.xlsx Sombrero Word Document: measuredworkshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Sombrero.docx Sombrero PDF: measuredworkshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Sombrero.pdf Making the graphs colorized based on their relative value was more difficult than I thought. There was no way in Excel to make a conditional graph (you can apply a gradient to the line, but the colors are spread out over the line, not over the plot area). So the Excel spreadsheet is more complicated than it would first seem. Basically what I did was paint the plot area with a gradient, created three pieces on top of it (a plot of everything above the line, the line itself, and everything below the line) and made the line itself "no fill" so that you could see through to the colorized plot area.
