Description: Welcome back to another episode of Shoe Care Academy! Pretty Boy Rob is back in the building to show us how to clean the Nike SB Dunk High ‘Strawberry Cough’. Designed by Nike SB legend Todd Bratrud, this shoe features shaggy green suede overlays, a green velour collar, and red ostrich leather, all causing this to be a challenging clean. One of our favorite features on the shoe is the coughing strawberry embroidered on the heel! This kick was originally released in October 2021 and retailed for $110, but now easily resells upwards of $400 or more depending on the size. The first step as always is to remove the laces and insert the adjustable shoe tree. Inserting the shoe tree is a vital step in the cleaning process as it allows you to put added pressure on the toe box while cleaning. Before using water and solution, Rob dry brushed the sneaker using a soft bristle brush, removing any excess dirt from the outer layer. Once the dust, dirt, and grime were removed using the soft bristle brush, it was time to get bubbly! With so many delicate materials on the uppers, PBR continue using the soft bristle brush on the uppers, this time with water and solution. After a thorough pass on the uppers, Pretty Boy still noticed some deeper stains in the midsoles and in the red ostrich leather, so he called on the medium bristle brush for back up. From there it was onto the outsoles with the stiff bristle brush. After letting the shoe dry outside in the warm Arizona sun, we're sad to report that the shoe did not turn out how we hoped. The color on the toebox faded significantly, likely due to over saturation. Instead of quitting, Rob decided to give it another go using the other shoe. This time he was extremely careful to not oversaturate the shoe and from the side-by-side comparison you can see the color comparison is night and day. However even on the left shoe that Robert was sure not to oversaturate, there was visible water spots and light color bleeding. In short, you definitely do not want to get this shoe wet so it's extremely important to keep it clean using water and stain repellent right out of the box. To finish off the cleaning, Pretty Boy Rob used RESHOEVN8R Mink Oil to help reset the nap and bring back some of that green color.
