Description: How Much Cardio Do You Need For Fat Loss? Zero cardio is needed! The number one thing that you need is to be in a caloric deficit. This means that you burn more calories than you eat. Make sure to keep your daily activity level high, as this can burn from 600-1000 calories per day. The body will adjust and be less active when you're in a caloric deficit. By knowing this, you can make sure you "get your steps in" to keep your metabolism higher. Weight training can also help you get lean and stay lean. Muscle boosts metabolism. You can also speed up your fat loss efforts by doing HIIT 1-2x per week. This is my favorite way to get leaner faster. One session takes only 10-20 minutes! Think of steady state cardio as a tool - it can be effective if you add it in for a few weeks before an event, shoot or competition. Many competitors, myself included, will use cardio to get leaner faster in the last few weeks before a show. If you must do cardio, keep it to 45 minutes or less and do it in another workout session separate from weights. Longer steady state cardio workouts will burn muscle, raise cortisol levels, and lower testosterone. Again, it's not necessary to do cardio at all to get lean, but some people feel better when they do.
