The episode picks up several years after Harald Hardrada has taken full control of Norway. In this time he was busy with affairs of state but nonetheless is reported to have found time for other adventures including explorations of the foreign north and mastering all manner of skills. The King of Norway also found himself in a second marriage which proved fruitful, bearing him two sons who would one day become kings of their own. However the ongoing war against Sweyn in Denmark has only escalated. For years Harald launched countless raids and incursions. While he held the upper hand, the Danes mounted a tenacious defense and very nearly captured the invading King on one occasion. Ultimately however this war of attrition proved costly to both sides. It was therefore agreed upon that the two Kings would meet for one massive fight to decide the fate of the realm. This would be the Battle of Nisa in 1062.
