Description: Today let's make some Gyudon. Let's get to it! GYUDON (or beef rice bowl) Thinly sliced beef (~120g) Half an onion (it wouldn't hurt to use 1 whole though) 2 tsp Ginger For the sauce, I normally just eye ball it, but.. 2 Tbsp light Soy Sauce (I like using the low sodium variant) 2-2.5 Tbsp Mirin 2 Tbsp Sake 2 Tbsp Sugar 2 Tbsp Water Thinly slice the onions. Grate the ginger (you can use a box grater too). Mix all the sauce's ingredients in a pan, add the onions, and place on a medium flame. Bring to a boil and then decrease flame to medium-low. For the beef, use any thinly sliced beef you prefer. The more tender the cut, the better. Cut the beef slices to manageable sizes and add it in. Stir occasionally until the beef is only slightly pink, and then take it off the heat and set aside (cook it more thoroughly if you're making more than enough for 1 meal). Top a bowl of rice with the beef and onions, and then scoop in some sauce. Top further with some beni shoga (pickled ginger). Sprinkle with roasted sesame seeds (optional). Finally, top it again with a poached egg. Break the yolk, lightly mix everything, and enjoy! :)
