In this lesson, our focus will be on learning about two specific styles of picking techniques. One is the technique of string crossing and the other is string skipping. With string crossing we’re performing lines that move along the neck crossing between adjacent guitar strings. The technique involves making smooth transitions between the two strings (whether we’re performing scale runs or intervals). With string skipping, we are focused on skipping over guitar strings. This means that we’re often playing much wider intervals. In fact, since we’re moving over two or even three guitar strings, our melody lines will often come across as sounding very different in most cases, (very intervallic).
