Description: This isn't the sort of thing I normally upload, but it occurred to me that there are very few high-quality videos on YouTube demonstrating what this combination of camera and lens looks like without a ton of effects. I wanted to show what the footage looks like straight out of the camera without any color grading or LUTs for those thinking about getting the Helios 44M-4 for their Panasonic GH5. The Helios 44M-4 was kept at f/2 the whole time. A circular polarizer was used to take the shine off the leaves and make the color pop. The lens was mounted to the GH5 with a Fotasy M42 to Micro Four Thirds adapter. The GH5 was kept at 60 FPS with a 180° shuttle angle (1/120s) and "standard" profile with "cloudy" white balance, and the footage was slowed down to 24 FPS. Most of the video was shot below 800 ISO, but one clip is 3200 (the one with the spider near the end). The color hasn't been altered. The Helios is a 58mm lens, but on the GH5, it has an angle of view equivalent to a 116mm on a full frame due to the 2x crop factor, making it effectively a telephoto lens. The in-body stabilization of the GH5 is adequate for standing still, but I wouldn't try walking with it. In my opinion, the strength of this lens is the quality of its bokeh, so it's best used for close-up shots with the aperture wide open. The minimum focusing distance is about 15 inches. I also like how it flares, so I would recommend backlit subjects. This lens also has a really long focus throw, something like 220° from minimum focus to infinity, which makes precise focusing pretty easy. I would say the focus is comparable to those Rokinon Cine DS lenses, and it would probably be good for filmmaking if you attach a follow focus gear. Some of the flares have a rainbow effect. I think this is due to the cheap polarizer I used, but it was the only 52mm polarizer I had. This lens may have limited use due to the narrow angle of view on Micro Four Thirds, but since you can get it on Amazon for about $60 (or even cheaper on ebay), it doesn't hurt to own one, even if you don't use it every day.
