Description: I needed a chisel, so I decided to forge one myself! Some hex bar was the perfect shape, and using my mini keg forge made the rest pretty easy! A pretty simple DIY, but then again, a chisel isn't exactly rocket science. The heat treating kind of worried me, I wasn't sure what type of steel the hex bar was (what the carbon content was) and it's much thicker than a knife blade so I wasn't sure how much oil it would soak up during a quench. After trying it out on progressively harder metals, 1/8" mild steel started to give me a bit of chipping so I'll call that the limit. Mainly though, I needed this chisel for chipping away granite, so being able to cold cut metal was overkill anyway. ► Enable closed captions for commentary ► GIF image gallery of the build here: ► SUBSCRIBE : youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=measuredworkshop ► INSTAGRAM: instagram.com/measuredworkshop
