Description: The impregnable Hospitaller's fortress of Crac des Chevaliers was besiege by Mamluk fores under Sultan Baibars in 3 March 1271. After repelling Mongol Ilkhanate invasion in Ayn Jalut in 1260 and forming an alliance with with Mongol Golden Horde. Mamluks manage to minimize the mongol threat into occasional raids. While Crusader's Latin empire has fallen in 1261, with Eastern Roman (Nicaeans) allied with Genoa battling Venice and Frankish Crusaders, diminising immideate naval reinforcement from venice. Eight Crusade led by King Louis IX of France against Caliphate of Ifriqiyya under Hafsid Dynasty, remnant of Almohad Caliphate was ended in failure with the death of King Louis IX. As Baibars was free to mobilize his troop out of north Africa, Mamluk forces decended toward Krak des Chevaliers. after a month siege, the fortress was breached, remaining hospitallers were given safe passage to Tripoli, which also besieged by Mamluks under baibars in the end of the year.
