"I think it's important to know that a dietitian is valuable not only in the treatment of disease but also the prevention. Really, it's the patient that's setting those goals. It's just our job to help them figure out how they're going to get there." From inpatient care to outpatient care, Lee Health registered dietitians are available to work one on one with patients to get them where they need to be in their health journey. "A dietitian is a good coach to just kind of help support you along your health and wellness journey. What makes a registered dietitian unique, is they are trained in medical nutrition therapy so that means that they can be a huge resource when we are talking about the treatment or prevention of chronic disease," said Konken. Dietitians can give patients new food options and teach them how to make better nutrition choices. "Consumers can make more informed food choices and have better information when they're choosing nutritious foods and also ways to adopt a more healthful lifestyle," she said.
