Description: There are emotional guidance scales where joy, passion and happiness are located at the top and and fear, jealousy, and insecurity are at the bottom. When we are experiencing these lower emotional states I do not believe we can produce happy music that the audience and other musicians can really relate to, as when we are in a state of anxiety or feel inadequate we will struggle to find a true connection with our music. But this does not happen just with music, it occurs in our daily lives. We can make ourselves dreadfully unhappy when we compare our job, house or even girlfriend with that of our neighbour. Today it is harder than ever as well with people publishing on Instagram carefully curated posts and just showing the best most perfect sides of themselves. My answer to all of this is to lower the ego and to be honest, then we will be at peace with ourselves -then anybody that is attracted to what we offer will be attracted to the genuine and not the fake. This is not easy though. It requires constant effort and attention. I would like to finish this rant with a quote from my good friend and drummer Asaf Sirkis “Alot of musicians mistake skill and ability with greatness” Please feel free to comment if you agree, disagree or feel you have something to add.
