Description: While the world continues to turn under lock down, eyes around the world are focusing on CERN and the Large Hadron Collider again. CERN is about to push the large hadron collider to levels never seen before in the LHC. And what the out come may be, is still anyone's guess. Including from scientist at CERN. The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is the world’s largest and most powerful particle accelerator. It first started up on the 10th of September 2008, and remains the latest addition to CERN’s accelerator complex. The LHC consists of a 27-kilometre ring of superconducting magnets with a number of accelerating structures to boost the energy of the particles along the way. The operation of CERN’s accelerators is subject to scheduled shutdowns to allow important repair and upgrade work to take place. The present shutdown, LS2, is devoted to preparations for Run 3 of the LHC, which will have an integrated luminosity (indicator proportional to the number of collisions) equal to the two previous runs combined.
