Description: PARENT TOT 8 0: " The roots of responsibility and the wings of independence" (-Maria Montesori-) The greatest gifts we can give our children are the roots of responsibility and wings of independence. Through Smart Fish lessons, the teacher has given the child the roots of responsibility by teaching them about the need for breath recovery and how to obtain it while in the water. Even though we teach them to enter into the water with a forward launch, submerge, front glide or swim, and then roll into a back float, if the student chooses to safely skip some steps, taking a shortcut to the back float, allow it. The important thing is that the child sees the value of back floating and enjoys it. If it works for them without struggling to do so, you can give them the wings of independence by allowing it, within reason. Continue to teach them how to do swim-float-swimming, so that they can move beyond this initial Grade 2 Self-Rescue skill, but praise them for their willingness to be independent like this. It is wonderful when they are confident and skilled enough to experiment with their abilities. They are safely learning through trial and error, while the teacher is merely protecting them from grave consequences. For more information check out Watersafe.com and SmartFishAcademy.com
