Description: Photography by Valji Varia natural-variation.com Rutting season in Richmond Park occurs between late September and early November. Reg stags and fallow bucks compete for females. Large males roar, bark and clash antlers to try to fight of rivals and gather as many females as possible. The stags are pumped full of both testosterone and adrenaline and can be highly aggressive. Over 600 deer roam freely throughout Richmond Park. Richmond Park was created by Charles I in the 17th century as a deer park. It is the largest of London's Royal Parks with a specific focus for wildlife conservation. The park is also a national nature reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest. Richmond Park is home to ancient trees and supports a wide range of rare species including fungi, birds, beetles, bats, grasses and wildflowers.
