Description: Review and test of the Barnes 9mm 115 gr TAC-XPD copper hollowpoint for self-defense. I'm using the SIM-TEST block (plus 4 layers of denim), and shooting a Glock 19 Gen4, 4" barrel, for the chronograph velocities and test shot. The SIM-TEST block is calibrated to be comparable with 10% ordinance gel. Regarding the lower than advertised velocities from the 4" barrel, on the day I ran that element of this review, I also tried some other 9mm JHP's to insure that the chronograph wasn't off. Averages from a 3 shot group are as follows: 124 gr +P Speer Gold Dot: 1194 FPS 127 gr +P+ Winchester Ranger SXT: 1215 FPS 147 gr Federal HST: 1002 FPS 147 gr +P Federal HST: 1042 FPS These velocities are where they should be, so in the case of the Barnes ammo velocities, it's the ammo coming up short relative to advertised velocity.
